Liu Zheng was born in 1969 in a Chinese mining village, now he lives and works in Beijing. He has an impressive portfolio that is quite different in style and content. He worked as a photojournalist for Workers’ Daily. His eight year travel throughout China resulted in his most renowned series "the Chinese"

"The four Beauties" shows a more matured  Liu Zheng portraying the Chinese history and tradition. He created these big photographs in a traditional Chinese style. Transforming four staged tableaux of historical drama into photographic images.

Using ordinary people dressed up as opera players, and adding nudity to this cornerstone of Chinese culture he chocked China. " In my opinion Peking Opera has too many oppressing elements, too many rules musts and must-nots, which in some sense is like Chinese culture," Liu Zheng " nudity, on the other hand, breaks up these rules and challenges the traditional mindset."
